Introduction
The Third Generation Project team concluded a dynamic and productive series of engagements across Rotterdam and Paris in October 2025, participating in high-level academic meetings, conferences, and workshops that advanced the project’s research agenda and international collaboration.

Strengthening Academic Partnerships
The visit began in Rotterdam, where Professor Ayse Guveli and Dr. Sait Bayrakdar met with long-time colleague and Advisory Board member Professor Harry Ganzeboom. The meeting focused on recent developments within the Third Generation Project and explored future research directions. The discussion reinforced the project’s collaborative foundations and helped align ongoing work with its broader research goals.

Presentations at ESA RN22 Midterm Conference
Professor Guveli and Dr. Bayrakdar then took part in the European Sociological Association’s RN22 Midterm Conference, hosted by the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Both scholars presented new papers drawing on the 2000 Families and Third Generation projects.
Their contributions examined themes such as intergenerational mobility, migration trajectories, and comparative methodologies across Europe, sparking substantive dialogue among conference participants.
Further details about the conference can be found on the ESA Midterm Conference 2025 – Rotterdam page.
Workshop at INED, Paris
The team continued their engagements in Paris with a workshop at the Institut National d’Études Démographiques (INED). Professor Guveli, Dr. Sebnem Eroglu-Hawksworth, and Dr. Bayrakdar presented recent findings from the 2000 Families Project, highlighting emerging insights on migration histories and family dynamics.

In a separate presentation, Professor Guveli introduced the Third Generation Project to the INED audience, emphasising its growing contribution to understanding transnational identities, intergenerational experiences, and the legacy of guest-worker migration in Europe.
